Bluebell
Welcome to Bluebell class Y1/2
Useful information
The class teachers are Miss Wittman and Mr Pickavance.
Our class teaching assistant is Mrs. Hewish.
Our P.E day is tbc - children to arrive at school in their P.E kit
Our enquiry question this term is:
Why do we like to live beside the sea?
Below you will find our Knowledge Organiser for this half term for you to read and share with your child. Within the Knowledge Organiser you will find a selection of topic homework ideas. Please complete one of these and return to school in the last week of term to share with the class.
Phonics
As a school we have adopted ‘Super Sonic Phonics Friends’, to support us with the teaching of systematic synthetic phonics. The scheme is based on the well-recognised ‘Letters and Sounds’. Super Supersonic Phonic Friends is an enchanted adventure of phonics where along the way children will meet several friendly woodland characters who represent each literacy skill involved. Supported by the children's new 'Supersonic friends' and rhyming captions and phrases, this approach will ensure children develop confidence and apply each skill to their own reading and writing. You can find out more information and meet the characters in the link below.
Reading at home
Children should be reading 4 times a week, every day if possible. Each time you listen to your child read it should be recorded in their reading diary. The children could write in the book themselves and perhaps write about their favourite part.
Reading diaries must be brought to school every day.
There are many books to explore in Reading Eggs app which support phonics, fluency and comprehension skills.
Spellings
The list of spellings to learn each week will be sent out at the beginning of each half-term. The spellings will be taken from the common exception words list and where needed include words containing phonics being taught over the half term.
We will have a spelling check every Friday.
Communication
We will use Tapestry as a means of sharing the children's learning with you. We encourage you to share any activities and achievements done at home as this really helps us get to know the children and understand their interests outside of school. We love to see what the children have been up to and they enjoy sharing with the class too.
The classroom door is always open for you to come and have a chat with us about any concerns you may have. You can also send us a message via eSchools and this will come directly to us.
Internet safety
As we are increasingly incorporating the use of technology and the internet into our everyday lives it is important to teach children how to use these safely. If you would like any more information, there are some useful videos in the SMART internet use link and how to be SMART when using the internet.
